Una preziosa testimonianza contenuta nel De methodo medendi di Galeno in merito all’uso del filo di seta in chirurgia offre l’opportunità di un’analisi storica ad ampio spettro sia del contesto socio-economico dell’età degli Antonini e in particolare delle relazioni commerciali con l’impero degli Han sia della circolazione e trasmissione di conoscenze tecniche e competenze mediche dalla lontana Cina fino all’Impero romano.
