Abstract

The paper aims to reconstruct the appearance of Poggioreale and, in particular, its baroque architecture before the earthquake in Belice (1968). The earthquake caused considerable damage to the architectural heritage of the city, causing the abandonment of the site and the construction of a new center away from the original urban core. The study, carried out by the bibliographical archival and iconographic sources, has also availed of surveys on the surviving buildings, allowing to make a reconstructive hypotesis of the main square, Piazza Elimo and to deepe the study of the mother-church, whose structures are still visible today.
