The essay aims to analyze the drawings related to Sicilian architectures by the French painter and architect Pierre- Joseph Garrez (1802–1852), pensionnaire at the French Academy in Rome between 1831 and 1835, who visited Sicily in 1832. The examination of these drawings, kept in France at various museums and part of a larger graphic corpus relating to Garrez’s stay in Italy, has allowed, also through a comparison with the graphic production of other travellers who visited the island between the 1820s and 1830s, to offer an insight into the interests of a new generation of architects. At the same time the study highlights a series of issues relating to Garrez’s travel experience (from the stages of his journey to the purposes of the drawings) which, in the absence of further written sources, are still open.
