In particular we will focus on how Sighvatr Þórðarson, Immo’s letter to Azecho of Worms, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the Encomium Emmae reginae and Adam of Bremen’s Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum deal with Ælfgifu’s exceptional and controversial social, marital and political status.
