This paper begins with a discussion about the coin types chosen by Smyrna as neokoros, focusing on the innovative representation of the eponym Amazon Smyrna, wich offers a miniature of the temple itself. The discussion is then widened to the role of the ruler in the creation and shaping of buildings and cities. The analysis of several examples underlines that the creation of a model played a key role in defining royalty.
