Using Edmundo O’Gorman’s mid-Twentieth-Century reading of the so-called philosophical and ontological “invention” of the idea of America (and of the American continent), in this essay I try to stress the importance of this reading for the birth and development of the decolonial and intercultural turn of American (and European) philosophy in the last three decades. On this basis, the main focus of the essay is, of course, the analysis of O’Gorman’s historical and philosophical masterpiece, La invenci n de Am rica.

Abstract

Using Edmundo O’Gorman’s mid-Twentieth-Century reading of the so-called philosophical and ontological “invention” of the idea of America (and of the American continent), in this essay I try to stress the importance of this reading for the birth and development of the decolonial and intercultural turn of American (and European) philosophy in the last three decades. On this basis, the main focus of the essay is, of course, the analysis of O’Gorman’s historical and philosophical masterpiece, La invenci n de Am rica.
