The IBAM-CNR team recently has carried out a comprehensiveresearch program aimed at studying the dynamics of production, distri-bution and consumption of Roman and Byzantine pottery in EasternSicily. e researches on Hellenistic and Roman material culture of ancientSyracuse allowed to deal with many issues on the pottery found in thecatacombs of Santa Lucia. e materials come largely from kiln dumpsand include both wasters and finished pottery. Researches aimed to thecontextualization of the archaeological evidence and in particular to thetopographical and chronological definition of the kilns area, to the acqui-sition of new documentation and to reconstruct the organization of pro-duction processes. e researches were also focussed on the archaeologicalsite of Santa Venera al Pozzo, a late Roman production center in easternSicily. Between 2015 and 2016, the IBAM team conducted an extensivegeophysical survey (GPR, ERT and Magnetometry) in order to identifyand define the production area.
