X-ray fluorescence (XRF) measurements were performed on dried tomato samples. The purpose of this study is to establish a protocol for in-situ analysis in order to provide a fast and reliable technique for quality assessment and traceability of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) products. Experimental data were extensively studied by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cluster Analysis. Moreover, a comparison of the obtained XRF results with a semi-quantitative ICP-MS analysis was also performed. The perspectives to apply the implemented procedures in order to disentangle tomato lots produced in different geographical areas will be discussed.
