Among others, the relationship between science, history and the political is evoked in Schmitt’s text The Buribunks. History is the central term and the real and concrete trait d’union of this fundamental triad of modernity. This chapter examines the relationship between science and history on the one hand, and that between history and the political on the other. In the first part of the chapter, Matteo Negro outlines and explains some of the features, causes and effects of the philosophy of immanence that founds the Buribunk civilisation. In the second part, Fabrizio Grasso attempts to find the origins of this philosophy of immanence in Schmitt’s thought, and follows its ontological development in the sphere of the political by comparing the figure of the Buribunk with that of the Christian Epimetheus.
