The archaic history of Agrigento, before the battle of Himera, is still difficult to define from an archaeological point of view. In the field research, a greater chronological structuring of the phases of occu- pation of the urban site emerges which seem to be independent of the date of foundation of the city reported by the sources to 580 BC. The contribution analyzes the archaeological evidence found starting from the first Agrigento works and in particular from Marconi’s explorations to give a more organic and complex reading of archaic Agrigento, proposing a new scan of the settlement and political phases of the city.

Abstract
The archaic history of Agrigento, before the battle of Himera, is still difficult to define from an archaeological point of view. In the field research, a greater chronological structuring of the phases of occu- pation of the urban site emerges which seem to be independent of the date of foundation of the city reported by the sources to 580 BC. The contribution analyzes the archaeological evidence found starting from the first Agrigento works and in particular from Marconi’s explorations to give a more organic and complex reading of archaic Agrigento, proposing a new scan of the settlement and political phases of the city.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
