The essay explores how relics in the Baroque age can be the touchstoneof the versatility of holiness with regards to territorial politics and, in the case of thePalermitan Saint, how an event, apparently local, can be intertwined to events, per - sons, worlds far away from Palermo. Furthermore, the essays examine the misalign - ment over the remains of Rosalia, strategically employed by the civilian and religiousauthorities to cope with the plague, between what was expressed and what wasdone by some promoters of her cult: a hiatus between public dimension and privatedevotion, quintessential of the baroque period
