Abstract

More than ten years after the publication of the monograph on the house of Chalara at Phaistos (Crete), in this paper I challenge the interpretation according to which the use of one of its best preserved rooms, room alpha, was a bathroom or a toilet. Its direct connection with lustral basin zeta could corroborate its possible ritual use, even though a function connected with everyday life is also possible.
