Abstract

The end of the Mycenaean kingdoms marks a new economic and social system. During the Iron Age, the economic system was diversified and no longer managed by a central power, but by different oikoi. In the Euboean world these are characterized by peribolo walls which enclose apsidal dwellings. In these structures, as in Lefkandi, containers for foodstuffs, pithoi and dolia play an important role, which assume an important representative role. The phenomenon is more generalized and in this work we will analyze the social and political role that the monumentalization of foodstuffs assumes in this chronological phase.
