Lanterne rosse: la presenza cinese a Catania

The attractive force, respect to the foreign immigration, powered by the urban centers is confirmed by the migratory dynamic of Catania. In the provincial capital there are more than one hundred foreign collectivities principally from the PVS. In this context stands the Chinese community , especially for the high rate of growth registered in the last years. The research faces the main aspects of the Chinese migration: the flux structure, determined by the inner mobility; the settlement strategies in the urban background; the link business-family; the ability to find jobs in an economy market characterized by high unemployment rate; the high ‘social visibility’. The picture is that of a unified community that want combine its cultural identity with the job offers in the territory.

La forza attrattiva nei confronti dell’immigrazione straniera esercitata dai centri urbani trova piena conferma nella dinamica migratoria del capoluogo etneo, che vede la presenza di oltre cento collettività straniere provenienti per la quasi totalità da PVS. In questo contesto spicca la comunità cinese non tanto per la consistenza, quanto per l’elevato tasso di crescita registrato nell’arco di pochi anni. L’indagine prende in esame gli aspetti più significativi dell’attuale migrazione cinese: la struttura del flusso, in parte determinato da processi di mobilità interna; le strategie di insediamento nel contesto urbano; l’intreccio impresa-famiglia; la capacità di ritagliarsi nicchie di mercato in un contesto economico caratterizzato da alti tassi di disoccupazione; l’elevata ‘visibilità sociale’. Emerge il quadro di una comunità coesa che vuole coniugare la propria identità culturale con le opportunità offerte dal territorio.
