The aim of this essay is to study Lectura fácil, a novel written by Cristina Morales and published in 2018, as an iconotextual form. In the organization of the novel, the author creates and inserts a fanzine that occupies about forty pages and that must be read as an independent structure, a space of utmost verbo-visual integration, thanks to the intersemiotic relation between text, images and typographical and iconographic arrangement. Morales presents two types of illustrations to create the fanzine: both authentic and retouched images. This article analyses some of them to show how narration and image complement each other and dialogue both within the fanzine and with the rest of the novel, following the rhetoric that corroborates the author’s theory, whose purpose is very clear: to criticize the social context that emancipates the protagonists of the novel – four women with disabilities – and to grant them voice, autonomy and freedom.
