The paper presents the data from a cistern found by the Italian Archaeological Mission on the northern slope of the south hill of Kyme, immediately to the North of a late-classical house in use throughout the Hellenistic period. The cistern bult is the first half of the third century BC, was filled with material, vessels of common use, tableware, cooking pots, amphoras and fine pottery attested in Athens and in other places of Greece and Asia Minor, from the second century BC until the beginnings of the first century AD. A small group of materials dating in the decades after the earthquake that in 17 AD destroyed Kyme and other towns on the Aegean coast suggests that, in this place, the removal of the debris was not immediate. Probably, only after the middle of the first century the rubble of the destroyed houses were partially thrown away in the cistern and the space around it was levelled for the construction of a large peristyle domus.
