European legislation regulated new forms of energy contracting, such as Peer-to-peer agreements and Energy communities, which go beyond the supply contract type and encourage self-consumption of renewable energy and the participation of 'active' customers in the market. Nevertheless, the implementation of these models on the territory of different EU States still faces some regulatory obstacles. An example of this is the German legal system, where the basic idea of the EU, according to which end consumers are not only allowed to generate and consume electricity themselves, but also to supply it to other consumers, has not yet been implemented. This would probably require a thorough revision of the national energy legislation.
