Abstract

Starting with an analysis of a cross with a Syriac inscription found in Hatra, some considerations about Syriac palaeography are presented in the light of the most recent research. The old definitions of Syriac script have already been discussed by John Healey in a series of studies. This new evidence strengthens his views and gives further data regarding the diffusion of Syriac scripts in Mesopotamia in the mid-first millennium AD.
