Enhancement strategies for cultural heritage management: Sicilian manor farms' reuse

This study intended to define a method for the reuse and preservation of the Sicilianmanor farms, able to prime a process of enhancement for the rural architectures and a processof sustainable development for the local community. The research identifies a methodologyto control the decision-making process, in order to verify that the interventions required by thenew management model are consistent with the purposes of building preservation. In Sicily,many farms fell into disuse in consequence of economic and social evolutions. Theproposedmethodology has been tested on the farm “Casa Li Melilli di Sopra”. The topic peculiarity requireda detailed analysis of compatibility, in order to choose new activities - in relation to thedevelopment dynamics of the area - able to allow conservation, reuse and management of thearchitectural complex. The reuse strategyis able to give new values related to the use and to stopthe degradation evolution.
