Verga nel realismo europeo: su «Mastro-don Gesualdo» e Zola

The comparative intersections between the second novel in the series of Vinti and the great European realism, and in particular Zola's work, are still little investigated. Developing some recent indications, this essay analyses the relationship between Mastro-don Gesualdo and Zola's La terre, and in particular the question of the representation of the peasants, and some constituent motifs of the plot of both novels, such as the division of inheritance and the irrepressible tension for the possession of the earth.

Risultano ancora poco indagate le intersezioni comparative tra il secondo romanzo della serie dei Vinti e il grande realismo europeo, e in particolare l'opera di Zola. Sviluppando alcune recenti indicazioni, in questo saggio si analizza il rapporto tra il Mastro-don Gesualdo e La terre di Zola, e in particolare la questione della rappresentazione dei contadini, e alcuni motivi costitutivi dell'intreccio di entrambi i romanzi, quali la divisione dell'eredità e la tensione irrefrenabile al possesso della terra
