Abstract

Overlays on building assets are problematic because not always is easy to identify what and when it was done. Transformation means "any change that a material undergoes changing the parameters that describe the conditions." The study explores the transformations on the external surfaces and volumes that have a prominent role in identifying the urban image. A Marzamemi, coastal village in the province of Syracuse, buildings was extremely simple and homogeneous, the differences were defined on the subjective choice of the decorative cornices, finish, railings. The spontaneous growth of recent transformations have focused on a vertical volumes, operated at random and subjective, which focuses on choices made by the internal distribution rather than by a rule deduced from the pre-existence: the urban image is thus to be made up of building models like, without identity, which creates a disarray in its negative sense, being devoid from the rules dictated by custom. A litter generated by the desire to emerge, "deaf" to the real technological potential. Objective of the research is to provide the social group established a tool to facilitate the interpretation of the values of the past without denying the contemporary, an integrated system of interventions that provides, in the long run, a viable solution to urban scale and in the short term interventions targeted to meet the user at the buildingscale. In this sense, it aims to develop a strategy based on categories of intervention tailored to the degree and depth of transformation, applied to the constructed, to resolve the needs triggered by the modification of user requirements. The first step in this direction is to identify what remains of the original state, to put it behind the project retracing contemporary suggestions dictated by the changes, without adding anything that is not confirmed its existence.
