Centuripini illustri in età augustea e giulio-claudia

The paper aims to identify a phase of remarkable development of Centuripe on the socio-economic and cultural level already in the Augustan and Julio-Claudian age, not so much – or, better, not only – through the archaeological remains, actually of difficult chronological dating, as rather thanks to the contribution offered by literary sources (not only Strabo) which, in a “crucial” time, that is in the Augustan-Tiberian but also in the Claudian and Neronian age, praised the city, place of origin of illustrious personalities and center of production and export of rare and sought-after goods.

Il contributo mira ad individuare una fase di notevole sviluppo di Centuripe sul piano socio-economico e culturale già in età augustea e giulio-claudia, non tanto – o, meglio, non solo – attraverso i resti archeologici, effettivamente di ardua collocazione cronologica, quanto piuttosto grazie al contributo offerto da testimonianze letterarie (non solo Strabone) che, in un torno di tempo “cruciale”, ossia in età augusteo-tiberiana ma anche claudia e neroniana, tesserono le lodi della città, luogo d’origine di personaggi illustri e centro di produzione ed esportazione di merci rare e ricercate.
