Pareti rocciose e manufatti in pietra: identità e differenze per un criterio di lettura

In the last years a new sensibility respect to the thematic ones of the territory, understood as match among natural environment and human environment, has assembled the public attention on the exploitation of whole territorial areas, bringing to the revaluation of many traditional aspects of the use of the territory among which it places the use of the stone resources.The stone resources represent besides an important cultural element, in how much you employ as first subject to realize the masterpieces of the siracusan architecture, that does by now part of the cultural patrimony of the humanity and that a formidable tool of transmission of testimonies constitutes between the past generations and those future.The environmental context in which this thematic is inserted is represented by the Latomies of the Cappuccinis. The materials with which Syracuse has been built almost entirely originate from the Latomies.To put aside from the varied functions that such place has assumed in the time the Latomies they strongly had a connotation in contrast with that today's: the erosive action of the time and the atmospheric agents, the earthquakes and the activities of extraction, have transformed the place and product different collapses of times and pillars, partially making the zone to open sky, occupied by a luxuriant vegetation, constituted by kind of ancient origin.In this treatment we want therefore to analyze the state of maintenance of the appearing on the surface rocky material beginning from the nature of the rock that constitutes the point of departure for the understanding and the evolution of a landscape, determined by the active geomorfologic agents.

Negli ultimi anni una nuova sensibilità riguardo alle tematiche del territorio, inteso come connubio tra ambiente naturale ed ambiente antropico, ha concentrato l’attenzione pubblica sulla valorizzazione di intere aree territoriali, portando alla rivalutazione di molti aspetti tradizionali dell’uso del territorio tra i quali si colloca l’uso delle risorse lapidee. Le risorse lapidee rappresentano inoltre un elemento culturale importante, in quanto impiegate come materia prima per realizzare i capolavori dell’architettura siracusana, che fanno ormai parte del patrimonio culturale dell’umanità e che costituisce uno strumento formidabile di trasmissione di testimonianze tra le generazioni passate e quelle future.Il contesto ambientale in cui si inserisce questa tematica è rappresentato dalle Latomie dei Cappuccini. I materiali con cui è stata edificata Siracusa provengono quasi interamente dalle Latomie.A prescindere dalle svariate funzioni che tale luogo ha assunto nel tempo le Latomie avevano una connotazione fortemente in contrasto con quella odierna: l’azione erosiva del tempo e degli agenti atmosferici, i terremoti e le attività di estrazione, hanno trasformato il luogo e prodotto diversi crolli di volte e pilastri, rendendo la zona parzialmente a cielo aperto, occupata da una lussureggiante vegetazione, costituita da specie di antica origine. In questa trattazione si vuole quindi analizzare lo stato di conservazione del materiale roccioso affiorantea partire dalla natura della roccia che costituisce il punto di partenza per la comprensione e l’evoluzione di un paesaggio, determinato dagli agenti geomorfologici attivi.
