A real-time system is a system in which the correctness of the results does not only depend on the logical correctness of the computations/operations performed to obtain them, but also on the time the results are obtained. The chapter firstly provides examples of real-time applications typically found in industrial plants control, automotive, avionics, industrial automation, etc. Secondly, the Chapter discusses the design challenges and the relevant paradigms, i.e. time-driven and event-driven, and compares the quality of the real-time support they are able to provide.

Abstract

A real-time system is a system in which the correctness of the results does not only depend on the logical correctness of the computations/operations performed to obtain them, but also on the time the results are obtained. The chapter firstly provides examples of real-time applications typically found in industrial plants control, automotive, avionics, industrial automation, etc. Secondly, the Chapter discusses the design challenges and the relevant paradigms, i.e. time-driven and event-driven, and compares the quality of the real-time support they are able to provide.
