This paper is devoted to investigate how literary genres have been perceived in Arabic literature in tenth century. This investigation is based on the analysis of an essay (risala) written by Abu Ishaq Ibrahim b. Zahrun as-Sabi (d. 994)and editet by Albert Arazi in 1986, in which the author presents some interesting ideas about the difference between poetry (shi'r) and prose (tarassul).
Questo contributo è dedicato alla disamina della percezione dei generi nella letteratura araba del X secolo. L'argomento è affrontato attraverso l'analisi di una epistola (risala) di as-Sabi (m. 994), edita nel 1986 da Albert Arazi, nella quale l'autore presenta idee interessanti sulla distinzione fra shi'r (poesia) e tarassul (prosa).
