Abstract

Surveys conducted prior to maritime construction-work have led to the rediscovery of a third "pier", already identifiable in early maps, in the western basin of the Neronian port of Anzio (Rome), which perhaps functioned as part of the interior defense-work. The structure is constructed in opus caementitium cast in caissons made of wooden planks. Two of these planks, which were raised, are marked with numerous stamps impressed into the wood.
