e present contribution investigates the eros lexicon in Les jeux uraniens by Claude Cahun (1894-1954). As Colvile (2006) points out «le verbe “oser” étant anagramme d’éros, on peut dire que toute sa vie, Claude Cahun a osé se fabriquer un éros autre et indéfinissable». In fact, eroticism as a theme permeates the whole production of the writer- photographer. However, if in Cahun’s (self)portraits and in Héroïnes, eros coincides with a deviant sexuality, in Les jeux uraniens the writer proposes a different definition of eroticism through the use of specific words aiming at restoring the concept of Eros (and homoeroticism in particular) as a tension towards knowledge, in which the physical or sensual sphere has no place.

Abstract
e present contribution investigates the eros lexicon in Les jeux uraniens by Claude Cahun (1894-1954). However, if in Cahun’s (self)portraits and in Héroïnes, eros coincides with a deviant sexuality, in Les jeux uraniens the writer proposes a different definition of eroticism through the use of specific words aiming at restoring the concept of Eros (and homoeroticism in particular) as a tension towards knowledge, in which the physical or sensual sphere has no place.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
