the study uses the descriptive techniques of Conversation Analysis, and applies Brown and Levinson's well-known model of politeness to certain speeches and utterances of Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first female prime minister. This (1990) model is extremely useful to identify discursive features such as turn-hogging, interruption and so on, which are taken as indicators of politeness.
