It is a most interesting phenomenon, that motives in sculpture and in the minor arts – like vase-painting – can show strong parallels and that they can be influenced from each other. Most often it is assumed that sculpture is the forerunner, but this is not a truth in every case. As we will see in the following, another possibility is, that a motive – like youthful riders – exist before a sculptural work but got a new input with that. The question we are interested in is how such parallels – not to say a network of images – can help to understand the contents of ancient art, and to overcome a discussion of ‘original and copies`.

Abstract
It is a most interesting phenomenon, that motives in sculpture and in the minor arts – like vase-painting – can show strong parallels and that they can be influenced from each other. Most often it is assumed that sculpture is the forerunner, but this is not a truth in every case. As we will see in the following, another possibility is, that a motive – like youthful riders – exist before a sculptural work but got a new input with that. The question we are interested in is how such parallels – not to say a network of images – can help to understand the contents of ancient art, and to overcome a discussion of ‘original and copies`.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
