The concept of “capitalism politically oriented” proposed by Max Weber suggests a model in which economic and political needs are closely linked, characterised by the primacy of (geo)political and defensive objectives. States, both ancient and modern, have always tried to control economic systems to maintain power: however, this tendency has seen a significant increase and evolution of tools with modern capitalism, in which technological innovation plays a prominent role in economic development and the maintenance of power, becoming one of the main characteristics of our system. Today, politically oriented capitalism has gradually replaced military conflict as the main geopolitical arena, and after twenty years of so-called 'hyper-globalisation', the worsening of economic, political, and environmental crises has led to a new reconfiguration. The paper aims to demonstrate the persistence of a political dimension in the capitalist system since its inception, while at the same time revealing contemporary discontinuities of action, influenced as much by domestic institutions as by geopolitical contingencies.
