The article discusses Gilberto Marconi’s recent book: L’infanzia di Maria. Dal tempio alla casa di Giuseppe. Indagine sul Protovangelo di Giacomo 6-10. Marconi’s study offers an opportunity not only to focus on the ‘apocryphal’ childhood of Jesus’s mother, but also to reflect on the use of narrative sources for historical and historical-religious investigation. That is, to highlight how each scholar, in reading the sources, responds in the first instance to his or her own scholarly interests and perspectives. The contribution shows, in fact, how Marconi’s analysis, mainly dedicated to the communicative strategies of the editor of the Protoevangelium and disinterested in the childhood of Mary, ends up making her completely marginal.

Abstract
The article discusses Gilberto Marconi’s recent book: L’infanzia di Maria. Dal tempio alla casa di Giuseppe. Indagine sul Protovangelo di Giacomo 6-10. Marconi’s study offers an opportunity not only to focus on the ‘apocryphal’ childhood of Jesus’s mother, but also to reflect on the use of narrative sources for historical and historical-religious investigation. That is, to highlight how each scholar, in reading the sources, responds in the first instance to his or her own scholarly interests and perspectives. The contribution shows, in fact, how Marconi’s analysis, mainly dedicated to the communicative strategies of the editor of the Protoevangelium and disinterested in the childhood of Mary, ends up making her completely marginal.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
