La segunda parte de Orlando (1555) is an epic-chivalric poem written by Nicolás de Espinosa, which is strongly linked to Italian chivalric material in terms of themes, motifs and characters. Although the numerous battles of the chivalric world constitute the central nucleus of the work, the text contains a varied female universe characterised by different profiles: warriors, wizards, maidens, etc. e main aim of this paper is, therefore, to analyse their presence in the poem, taking into account the continuous dialogue with the sources of the Italian chivalric tradition, as well as to propose an approximate classification of them according to their appearance and function in Espinosa’s work.
