Based on the proposals of various researchers, this volume has been edited to provide a linguistic-thematic mapping of cultural heritage. Respect for diversity was observed in various ways, including the possibility of using languages other than English (Italian, Portuguese, and where possible, Spanish and French). It is hoped that this will provide an overview of the current situation, and that it will serve as a starting point for subsequent in-depth studies, as is the case with all conference papers. The papers contribute to a transnational dialogue by presenting practical case studies and stories that address issues related to the shaping, perception, action and care of heritage and collections by communities. Some of these case studies reflect on exclusion and imbalanced power dynamics, while others explore the potential for empowering the marginalised.
