Since the second half of the 20th century, the Granfonte district of Leonforte experienced increasing marginalisation. After a brief discussion of the caus136 Abstract es that triggered this process, the text examines its impact on the historic buildings. Today, these are characterised by the contradictory coexistence of buildings in a state of neglect or even ruin, alongside others that have undergone substantial transformation. The study of common construction features has enabled the identification of the essential elements of the clusters, as well as to recognise the qualities and values of an urban landscape: indeed, this is the very result of the modern colonisation process that gave birth to the city. Following the analysis conducted and the results on the nature of the building fabric and its houses, some guidelines are then drafted in order to safeguard them from the opposing threats of ruin and uncontrolled transformation, and also counter the risk of rapid impoverishment that is currently festered by standardisation and by the adoption of industrial techniques and procedures. The discussion on recurring or particularly aggressive alterations, that mark the current state of the building fabric, is followed by a proposal for action with regards to abandoned buildings. Such a proposal is outlined through several guidelines for intervention that focus on (1) the characteristics of the Granfonte neighbourhood with reference to both houses (ground connection; façade layout; crowning; vaulted structures; roofing, finishes and fittings; the layout; staircases and balconies) and (2) public spaces (parapets on public paths; urban paving). On the ground of these guidelines, the proposal lays the foundations for the creation of an operational tool for municipal administrators for a conscious care, repair and damage mitigation.

Abstract
On the ground of these guidelines, the proposal lays the foundations for the creation of an operational tool for municipal administrators for a conscious care, repair and damage mitigation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
