Official tourism statistics in Italy are generally conceived for aims other than quantifying tourists and are thus affected by measurement errors. Unrecorded tourism in particular is not given the necessary consideration though it is a very important phenomenon, especially at seaside resorts. Administrative data may be used to create indicators to estimate unrecorded tourism, but they too pose limitations and validity and reliability issues. Tailor-made surveys can assist in keeping sampling and non-sampling errors under control, still estimation strategies need be implemented.

Abstract
Official tourism statistics in Italy are generally conceived for aims other than quantifying tourists and are thus affected by measurement errors. Unrecorded tourism in particular is not given the necessary consideration though it is a very important phenomenon, especially at seaside resorts. Administrative data may be used to create indicators to estimate unrecorded tourism, but they too pose limitations and validity and reliability issues. Tailor-made surveys can assist in keeping sampling and non-sampling errors under control, still estimation strategies need be implemented.File in questo prodotto:
