The international wine sector in the last two decades has changed significantly as a result of changes in the dynamics of the area under cultivation and the corresponding productions. The present paper aims to evaluate the profitability of quality wine grape growing in Sicily using the parameters (SGM and SO), under Community rules in order to assess the impact in the most representative areas of the Sicily compared to the regional average. The methodology employed allows to highlight a comparative economic performance of the Sicilian wine grape growing, even at the possible impact that the SO would have on decision making of future rural development policies.

Abstract

The international wine sector in the last two decades has changed significantly as a result of changes in the dynamics of the area under cultivation and the corresponding productions. The present paper aims to evaluate the profitability of quality wine grape growing in Sicily using the parameters (SGM and SO), under Community rules in order to assess the impact in the most representative areas of the Sicily compared to the regional average. The methodology employed allows to highlight a comparative economic performance of the Sicilian wine grape growing, even at the possible impact that the SO would have on decision making of future rural development policies.
