Abstract

The Birds is still a play rich in moral and political suggestions for the spectator of XXI century. Roberta Torre staged, for the XLVIII Cycle of Classical Plays in Syracuse, a ‘sparkling’ performance, set on a eighteenth pop century. Thanks to lace-costumes, bright wigs and strong soundtrack, the characters were transformed in strange creatures while the spectators are enveloped in a magical atmosphere. This paper tries to describe the main level of direction, with particular attention on the interactions between ancient and contemporary elements.
