Soluble cell protein and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) profiles in SDS-PAGE of non-ice nucleation active (non-INA) Pseudomonas fluorescens strains with antagonistic activity against ice nucleation-active (INA) bacteria were evaluated as approaches for their monitoring when released for biological control. The strains examined had different protein profiles, with similarity coefficient ranging from 25 to 58%, useful for their identification. These profile were markedly different from those obtained from two P. fluorescens INA strains and a P. syringae INA strain analysed for comparison. Antagonistic non-INA P. fluorescens strains showed smooth-type LPS profiles, whereas semi-rough type LPS profiles were observed in INA Pseudomonas strains.
