From knowledge about the interference of subinhibitory concentrations of some antibiotics on the bacterial morphophysiology, we investigated the effect of a new macrolide (roxitromicin) on bacterial binding capacity of oral streptococci with epithelial cells. In particular, rsults obtained with light microscope counts showed an adherence inhibition of 15,6% and 20,2% for S. mutans, of 18.3% and 22.4% for mitis, of 15.1% and 18.4% for S.salivarius, of 16.2% and 17.2% for S.milleri, 26.5% and 27.5% for S.sanguis after 3 an 6 hours respectively of sub-inhibitory treatment. In fact, the documentation obtained scanning electron microscope, after treament of S.mitis, S.salivarius and S.sanguis with doses of rixithromicin equal to1/8 of the minimum inhibitory concentration after 3 and 6 hours, conferms the anti-adherent effect of the antibiotic.

Abstract
From knowledge about the interference of subinhibitory concentrations of some antibiotics on the bacterial morphophysiology, we investigated the effect of a new macrolide (roxitromicin) on bacterial binding capacity of oral streptococci with epithelial cells.
