Agmentin, combination drug (amoxycillin-clavulanic acid 2:1) was compared with amoxycillin alone and clavulanic acid alone, for its in vitro inhibitory and bactericidal activity against delected clinical isolates. The in vitro activity of agmentin against 26 strains of B.fragilis, 12 others Bacteroides strains and 2 Clostridium correlated with the production of beta-lctamase by the bacterial strains. Agmentin showed a good antibacterial activity (MICs<ug/ml) against all beta-lactamase producing stains. Killing curves of B.fragilis were studied byusing a modified agar dilution plate count method. The strain was quite rapidly fkilled by Agumentin at MIC or twofold MIC concentrations.
