La fortezza di Nora in Cappadocia: testimonianze letterarie e riscontri archeologici

The purpose of this paper is to reconsider literary and archaeological sources on the settlement of Nora in Cappadocia, theater of a long siege during the Wars of the Diadochi. In order to formulate a hypothesis on the location and changes of the toponym, but also to include the history of the fortress within a larger regional setting, we proceeded to the analysis of the technical terms that indicate the status and functions of the site and we tried to interpret the processes of continuity and transformation between Hellenism and Late Antiquity.

Il lavoro mira a riconsiderare le fonti letterarie e archeologiche sull’insediamento di Nora in Cappadocia, teatro di un lungo assedio durante le guerre dei Diadochi. Al fine di formulare un’ipotesi sull’ubicazione e sui mutamenti del toponimo, ma anche di inserire la storia della fortezza all’interno di un più vasto àmbito regionale, si è proceduto all’analisi dei termini tecnici indicanti lo statuto e le funzioni del sito e all’interpretazione dei processi di continuità e trasformazione fra Ellenismo e Tarda Antichità.
