The title rhamnopyranosylamine, C(13)H(19)NO(4)center dot 1.5H(2)O, was isolated as an intermediate in the Amadori rearrangement of L-rhamnose with p-toluidine. Two independent molecules and three water molecules of crystallization comprise the asymmetric unit, and these components are held together via extensive hydrogen-bonding interactions.
