Marazzi’s cinema is focused on the exploration of female subjectivity, which represents a sort of thematic and figurative ‘obsession’. His experimental research makes heterogeneous materials such as photos, family movies, archive records, letters, animated movies create a dense audiovisual chain, characterized by poetic cutting movements. In addition to a distinct visual freedom, Marazzi’s movies distinguish themselves for a special use of voice-overs, which lively counterbalance the images. This essay tries to highlight the principal instances of off sounds with reference to Un’ora sola ti vorrei and Tutto parla di te, two works in which the mise en son contributes to express a painful female landscape. The analysis of the voice system helps underlying the experimental nature of the Director’s style, completes the necessary references to the elegiac visual of his films, and introduces new nuances to the account of the fruitful relationship between mothers and daughters.
