An applicative model for regional interventions for supporting the sustainability of the maritime department of Augusta

The objective of the paper is to explore the Sicilian fish sector and, in this case, sustainable fishing in the maritime department of Augusta, revealing, when possible, the specific features of local fish productions, also with respect to other socio-economic activities, in order to provide an overview as accurate as possible on the present sustainable development conditions of the Augusta marine department. After examining the technical and structural characteristics of the Augusta fishing fleet, the strength and weaknesses, which are considered as determining the development perspectives of the fish sector, are analyzed. A SWOT analysis of the fishing system of the maritime department of Augusta represents an important contribution in the ex-ante evaluation phase of the programming, capable of allowing intervention priorities to be defined and strategies to be effected for reaching the pre-established objectives.
