Biodiversity and ecosystem approach as political discourse

The concept of biodiversity is intriguing and it has required a large amount of theoretical and applied research. The weakness of the international governance of biodiversity has determined the inability to achieve the target agreed at international level for a significant reduction in the rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national level. The paper provides a concise overview of the political relevance of the biodiversity concept and some critical analysis of ecosystem approach. Finally, it stresses the importance of a platform for a better policy-science interface
