The territory of the municipalities crossed by the river Simeto is one of the areas with the highest levels of agricultural activity in Sicily. Even though primary economic activity appears to be significantly decreased in its contribution to the GDP of the island, agriculture still plays a very important role. We can distinguish two phases, the analytical-cognitive and the interpretive-evaluative. With the support of cartography, these have enabled us to confirm the usefulness of GIS techniques, to investigate a very wide area,and to delineate some avenues of geo-economic reflection.
