At the end of the eighties of the twentieth century the concept of environmental sustainability is defined and the society’s development model begin to be rethought; from now, at international level, scientific community, industry and government engage themselves in the adoption of development policies in order to reduce the environmental impacts of all human activities. The construction industry is highly involved in this issue both for materials production/ construction waste disposal and building management. The current debate also concerns the refurbishment/restoration of existing buildings through the development ofenvironmental sustainability certification models concerning both modern buildings (Protocollo ITACA) and cultural heritage (Gbc Historic Building). The paper deals with the reuse of historical buildings focusing on some categories of intervention that have an impact on sustainability, declined in both cultural and environmental aspects: the liberation and the integration of new volumes or materials and constructive elements; case studies are proposed, in order to validate an interdisciplinary approach for design choices.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
