We have analysed the ancient veterinary practices described in Julius Africanus’ Cesti, a technical treatise of 3rd century AD. In particular, in addition to the strictly veterinary therapies present in the work, we have taken into account also those practices that show an affinity with pagan magic and superstition, through the use of incantation formulas, gestures and various amulets.
