We study the self-localization of one polaron-like excitation in a 2D harmonic lattice. We recognize and variationally estimate the values of the ruling parameters, for which localization occurs, both in the continuum limit and in the more realistic discrete case. We eventually account for the width of such an excitation in the lattice.
