The Winter garden is a green house for ornamental plants; it is a steel framed construction with glass panels/walls, usually built adjacent to the house. They were very common between the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th centuries. Nowadays, they are often afflicted by degradation (oxidation, holes in the glass panels and lacking in comfort indoors...). The author of this article will try to explain the most important possible treatments related to some of these emblematic constructions.
Con la dizione “giardino di inverno” si indica una serra per piante ornamentali, realizzata in ferro e vetro, generalmente adiacente ad una villa o ad un appartamento signorile. Esse furono molto comuni tra la fine del XIX secolo e l’inizio del XX. Oggi sono spesso afflitte da varie forme di degrado (ossidazione dei montanti, lesioni nelle lastre di vetro, elevata trasmittanza termica, …) . L’autore in questo articolo illustra le più comuni tecniche di recupero, assumendo, come casi esemplificativi, alcuni edifici catanesi di pregio.
